Great user experience
Structured business reports—Integrated
business reporting provides high-quality,
structured reports, otherwise possible only using
expensive third-party products. Users have
unprecedented access to important business data in
a well-structured format that is easily understood.
Flex 2 integration—e combination of the rich
user experience of Flex 2 and the productivity of
ColdFusion MX 7 provides the fastest, easiest way
to create rich Internet applications. Simple-to-use
wizards in the ColdFusion Extensions for Flex
Builder 2 generate complete data-driven RIAs, and
server-side features give developers easy access to
ColdFusion components from within Flex.
Printable web content—Dynamically transform
existing HTML content into Adobe PDF or other
formats to produce print-quality output that can
be viewed in a browser, saved to disk, or e-mailed.
Rich forms—Build accessible, high-quality forms
in minutes using the new rich Adobe Flash® and
XML forms capabilities. Use familiar CFML tags
to easily create complex, multi-step forms. Re-skin
forms across applications.
Charting—Produce high-quality charts and
graphs with over 200 dierent modiable
attributes to control animation, colors, labels,
and more.
Full-text search—e latest version of the Verity
full-text search engine adds hierarchical category
searching, spelling correction suggestions,
highlighted search results, better search result
data, and more.
Flexible deployment
Enterprise manager—Easily create multiple
server instances on a single machine. Experience
highly available, secure, and performance-
optimized applications—without the additional
hardware and soware expense of separate
physical servers.
J2EE package deployment—Moving
ColdFusion applications into production in J2EE
environments has never been easier. Deploy an
application and the entire ColdFusion runtime as
a standard Java archive (EAR or WAR le).
Sourceless deployment—ColdFusion applica-
tions packaged as J2EE archives can optionally
omit unencrypted CFML source, allowing
applications to be redistributed and helping
protect intellectual property.
Administrator API—Programmatically perform
administrative tasks, such as datasource
management, which previously required manual
access using the ColdFusion administrator.
Language enhancements
Application event handling—Applications can
now detect and respond to the start or end of
applications, sessions, and requests.
Improved form validation—Perform more
powerful data validation at the form eld level, on
submission by the browser, on the server, or any
combination of the three.
Integrated NT domain authentication—
ColdFusion login tags can now directly authenti-
cate users in a Microso® Windows NT domain.
Plugable strong encryption—ColdFusion now
uses the Java security model to more easily
integrate with third-party security products.
Enhanced web services support—Finer grain
controls are now available enabling applications to
have full access to SOAP headers, more control
over WSDL creation, and more. WS-I compliant.
New classes of applications
Event gateways—Build gateway applications
that can interact with a host of other protocols
common in today’s networked world. Use the pre-
built gateways, or easily create new ones.
Asynchronous CFML gateway—Process
multiple or long-running application tasks in their
own threads, improving performance and
functionality for users.
SMS gateway—Interface with SMS-enabled
mobile phones. ColdFusion MX 7 is already AT&T
certied.
IM gateways—Interface with Lotus Sametime
IM, Google, or Jabber XMPP IM clients, the
emerging standard protocol for instant messaging
systems.
Extensible gateway architecture—Create new
event gateways enabling ColdFusion applications
to respond to events from a nearly limitless variety
of emerging protocols.
